Appleton Estate X Sean Brown
Turning cultural collaboration into social conversation
Role: Editorial Lead, Creative Copywriting, Social Strategy
Scope: Campaign Strategy, Creative, Talent Management, Production, Publishing
THE CHALLENGE
Appleton Estate is a proudly Jamaican brand with over 250 years of rum-making heritage. The challenge was to modernize perceptions of the brand and strengthen its relevance among Canadian audiences by bringing its rich cultural history to life in a way that felt authentic, contemporary and connected to the Jamaican-Canadian community.
THE OPPORTUNITY
To position Appleton Estate as a premium, modern brand by connecting its heritage with the creativity and influence of Jamaican-Canadian culture.
Through a partnership with Jamaican-Canadian artist and creator Sean Brown, we created a cultural collaboration that brought together Appleton Estate’s legacy with Sean’s distinctive creative perspective and influence — creating a platform for the brand to participate in meaningful conversations with new audiences.
THE WORK
The social strategy was designed to transform the collaboration from a brand partnership into a cultural moment, creating content that made the story behind the collaboration relevant, engaging and shareable across social platforms.
We developed a social-first content approach that brought the collaboration to life through Sean Brown’s creative lens, highlighting the exclusive Appleton Estate pieces designed for his viral Curves collection, inspired by the iconic Appleton bottle silhouette and the vibrant golden tones of the liquid.
To extend the conversation beyond digital, we amplified the pop-up experiences across key Canadian cities, capturing the energy of Jamaican roadside bars through social content featuring local communities, Caribbean food, music and Appleton Estate cocktails.
Working closely with Sean Brown’s team, we created a suite of social-first videos, stills and paid media assets that balanced brand objectives with creator authenticity, ensuring the content felt native to Sean’s audience while reinforcing Appleton Estate’s Jamaican heritage and premium positioning.
THE IMPACT
The collaboration generated 2.79M organic and paid social impressions, surpassing campaign goals by 290%.
The work helped strengthen Appleton Estate’s connection with Jamaican-Canadian audiences while demonstrating how a heritage brand could use social storytelling and cultural partnerships to create relevance with new consumers.
